Senior Scientist, T Cell Immunology (Process Development) *

The successful candidate will be part of the Process Development team, which develops large-scale closed-system processes for all BioNTech US cell therapy products. The candidate will work in a matrixed fashion with research teams of the Cell Therapy Unit, as well as the Technical Operations, Regulatory and Quality groups to develop a phase 1-ready manufacturing process for a novel neoantigen-specific T cell product.  The candidate will have the opportunity to act as a strategic leader within the Process Development team, providing input on all ongoing projects within the team, and acting as the liaison to the program CMC team by providing strong scientific and technical guidance.

Primary responsibilities include:
  • Lead and execute process development activities to prepare for phase 1 manufacturing of a new neoantigen-specific T cell therapy, including upscaling of key process steps and at-scale testing of the proposed manufacturing process
  • Present results to both scientific and cross-functional teams
  • Represent process development in cross-functional CMC team
  • Support tech transfer of the manufacturing process to the phase 1 manufacturing site
  • Support program regulatory filing

What you have to offer.

  • Required skills
  • Ph.D. in T cell immunology or related discipline, and/or equivalent relevant work experience with strong knowledge of T cell biology, immuno-oncology, and cell therapy process development
  • Significant experience with long-term human primary cell culturing and/or expansion systems, preferably with lymphocytes
  • Mastery of multicolor flow cytometry and other immune related assays
  • Ability to balance independent execution with strategic contributions and project management
  • Excellent attention to detail, excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Enjoys solving challenging scientific questions in a fast-paced environment
  • Independent, flexible, self-motivated, and the ability to work well with others
    Preferred skills
  • Experience with large-scale, closed-system technologies for cell processing and culturing
  • Experience with molecular biology and/or cell engineering
  • Experience with CMC and tech transfer
  • Demonstrated ability to lead or execute a collaborative research project
