Senior Scientist, Peptide Chemistry

BioNTech is a Germany-based biotechnology company with U.S. offices in Cambridge, MA and Gaithersburg, MD, that focuses on developing cancer therapeutics, including individualized immunotherapy, as well as vaccines for infectious diseases, including COVID-19. BioNTech US is seeking an experienced Peptide Chemist to lead our peptide synthesis team. This role will be hands-on, working alongside the team producing peptide libraries for supporting R&D programs.

  • Lead a peptide synthesis team to produce peptide libraries for supporting R&D programs
  • Plan and schedule peptide synthesis tasks in coordination with other functional groups
  • Conduct high-throughput peptide synthesis by using various cutting-edge, automated peptide synthesizers
  • Troubleshoot and maintain peptide synthesizers and other peptide production related instruments and equipment
  • Develop and optimize peptide synthesis methods and protocols
  • Participate in LIMS optimization and automation improvement for enhancing peptide synthesis capacity and efficiency
  • Perform process development of peptide-based APIs for supporting GMP manufacturing
  • Work cross-functionally within the organization in various areas including analytical chemistry, small molecule medicinal chemistry, conjugation chemistry, formulation, and pharmacokinetics
  • Liaise with CROs and CMOs

What you have to offer.

  • Ph.D. or M.S. in peptide chemistry or a related discipline with 8+ years of industry experience in peptide synthesis area
  • Proven experience in operation of modern high-throughput peptide synthesizers using SPPS strategy
  • Proven experience in synthesizing peptides with a wide range of structures using different synthetic approaches and methods
  • Experience in HPLC, UPLC, MS, and LC-MS
  • Experience in automation and/or LIMS is highly desirable
  • Experience in solution phase peptide synthesis is a plus
  • Highly organized with a pro-active mentality
  • Excellent interpersonal, networking, and communication skills
  • Must be able to work in a team and collaborative environment
