Senior Scientist* Formulation Analytic & Assay Development Advanced Biophysical Methods

At BioNTech, you will develop and apply methods for advanced, biophysical characterization of formulations at preclinical (R&D) and clinical stages. Such data will be required for rational development of new formulations for a given purpose in new or upcoming projects. As well the data will be applied in clinical projects to better justify selection and specifications for regular quality control and create a deeper understanding of the molecular basis of our products. Furthermore, the data are to be used in documents (e.g. extended characterization panel) towards the authorities, like briefing books, INDs, IMPDS, etc. 

Your main responsibilities are:
  • Method development and execution of techniques for characterization of formulations in development at BioNTech using physicochemical techniques such as small angle scattering and advanced spectroscopy techniques
  • Processing and in-depth data analyses. Application of standard and advanced routines for data analysis (fitting)
  • Application of standard software, writing of dedicated scripts modelling and macros automation of data treatment
  • Working in close cooperation with other members in the department, and interacting in internal and external cooperations
  • Responsibility for instruments, laboratory management, and supervision of Student Assistants and Research Associates

What you have to offer.

  • Doctoral degree in chemistry, physics, biology, biomedical engineering, pharmaceutical or other natural sciences, with focus on at least one of the following fields: colloidal sciences, biophysics, bio-membranes, polymer physics, nanoparticles, pharmaceutical technology
  • Sound theoretical knowledge on the applied methods and genuine interest for data analysis of biological macromolecules and complex systems such as nanoparticles
  • Hands-on experience on characterization of colloidal systems using scattering techniques and or advanced spectroscopy techniques
  • Knowledge in additional orthogonal techniques such as electron spin resonance (ESR) spectroscopy is a plus
