Senior Research Associate, Process Development*

As a key research and clinical development hub, BioNTech US will enable BioNTech’s growing presence in the US.

The successful candidate will join the Process Development team, which develops large-scale closed-system processes for all BioNTech US cell therapy products.  The candidate will work in close collaboration with research teams of the Cell Therapy Unit to develop a phase 1-ready manufacturing process for a novel neoantigen-specific T cell product, including optimizing key process steps and performing characterization testing.  The candidate will then have the opportunity to collaborate with the CMC team to transfer the process for clinical manufacturing and prepare for IND submission.  This position reports to a Group Leader, Senior Scientist II, T cell Immunology.

Supporting BioNTech’s R&D team in the US by:
  • Culturing of human T cells
  • Development of procedures for large-scale, closed-system T cell culture
  • Assessment of specificity and functionality of human T cells by multicolor flow cytometry
  • Tracking and compiling results in an electronic notebook
  • Documenting studies in technical reports
  • Assisting with the training of lab and manufacturing personnel
  • Presenting results to both scientific and cross-functional teams

What you have to offer.

  • Minimum requirements; BS or MS in immunology or related discipline, and experience with: 1) primary cell culture, AND/OR 2) flow cytometry. 
  • A strong interest in T cell biology and cancer immunotherapy
  • Ability to work independently, as well as in a collaborative environment to meet project goals
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Enjoys solving challenging scientific questions in a fast-paced environment
  • Independent, flexible, self-motivated, and the ability to work well with others
