Senior Research Associate, Computational Biology

BioNTech is a Germany-based biotechnology company with U.S. offices in Cambridge, MA and Gaithersburg, MD, that focuses on developing cancer therapeutics, including individualized immunotherapy, as well as vaccines for infectious diseases, including COVID-19. The company's oncology pipeline contains several classes of drugs, including mRNA-based drugs to encode antigens, neoantigens, cytokines, and antibodies; cell therapies; bispecific antibodies; and small-molecule immunomodulators. BioNTech is partnered with several large pharmaceutical companies, including Roche, Eli Lilly, Pfizer, Sanofi, and Genmab. Comirnaty (COVID-19 vaccine) is its first commercialized product.

We are seeking a Senior Research Associate to join our Computational Biology team.

Primary responsibilities include:
-    Optimization and execution of neo-antigen prediction pipelines, including the integration of proprietary deep learning-based algorithms
-    Analysis of large in-house OMICs and mass spectrometry datasets to enable target discovery for oncology; improvement and maintenance of these data resources in collaboration with the proteomics and data engineering teams
-    Support for interdisciplinary teams (computational biology, proteomics, biochemistry, and immunology) working on target discovery for cancer and on new mRNA vaccines for infectious disease
-    Participation in an ongoing machine learning collaboration, including the design and curation of training data sets
-    Development of data analysis automation and visualization tools for diverse projects, with an emphasis on analysis of patient immune responses for ongoing clinical trials


What you have to offer.

•    Master’s degree in bioinformatics, biology, computer science, or a related field
•    At least 2 years of experience with Python (preferred) or R and experience using GitHub to develop code collaboratively
•    Experience working in Linux environment
•    Strong communication and organizational skills
•    Familiarity with statistical concepts (regression, p-values, etc.)

Preferred qualifications:
  • Basic understanding of immunology and cancer
  • Experience with database systems
  • Experience with AWS, with a focus on HPC computing
