Senior Manager, Corporate Development and Strategy*

BioNTech is a Germany-based biotechnology company with U.S. offices in Cambridge, MA and Gaithersburg, MD, that focuses on developing cancer therapeutics, including individualized immunotherapy, as well as vaccines for infectious diseases, including COVID-19. The company's oncology pipeline contains several classes of drugs, including mRNA-based drugs to encode antigens, neoantigens, cytokines, and antibodies; cell therapies; bispecific antibodies; and small-molecule immunomodulators. BioNTech is partnered with several large pharmaceutical companies, including Roche, Eli Lilly, Pfizer, Sanofi, and Genmab. Comirnaty (COVID-19 vaccine) is its first commercialized product.

The Senior Manager, Corporate Development & Strategy will be a key member of the global BioNTech corporate development & strategy team and will be based out of our US headquarters in Cambridge, MA.  S/he will have a high profile role and will gain first hand strategic and operating experience while helping to build a premier biotechnology company.  This high energy individual will wear many hats and will have the capacity to drive numerous complex projects forward simultaneously.  

Key Responsibilities

The areas of responsibilities will include:
  • Drive global corporate strategy efforts including setting therapeutic area and technology strategies, identification of new growth opportunities, evaluation of build/buy/partner opportunities and other special projects as needed to advance our business.
  • Manage our overall search and evaluation process, including identification of new potential partners, managing interactions, and providing status reports of interactions to internal stakeholders
  • Build corporate development business cases based on rigorous scientific insights and evidence-based assumptions while accounting for commercial, development, financial considerations and clearly articulating the overall risk/benefit profile.
  • Prepare internal review and briefing documents including substantial quantitative and qualitative analysis of opportunities.
  • Facilitate and contribute to potential partner due diligence.
  • Closely collaborate with business development, legal, finance, commercial, and R&D teams to support programs, alliances, partnering efforts, and closing of transactions to drive the overall business objectives.
  • This role reports to the Vice President of Corporate Development and Strategy in Cambridge, MA.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Minimum requirements; Bachelor's degree, training in scientific field with 8 plus years experience in biopharma industry, life science management consulting and/or comparable experience.
  • Ability to drive the business forward through application of a deep understanding of the science and broad knowledge of drug development.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills are critical with prior experience presenting to C-suite and BOD level professionals preferred.
  • Collaborative attitude with strong relationship management skills, adept at working with many different disciplines both inside and outside of the company.
  • Strategic thinker with strong grasp of analytic tools, research databases, and a track record of developing high impact insights. 
  • Passionate about delivering transformative therapies to patients required.
  • Driven,  “sleeves rolled up” approach to work, flexible able to adapt to a rapidly changing environment as well as the ability to thrive in fast-paced, high volume environment.
Preferred requirements; Graduate degree (PhD, MD, MBA). Prior disease experience in biotech
