Senior Director* R&D Data Value Office (DVO)

Purpose of the position:
Leading the Data Value Office team to deliver end-to-end projects and data platforms to the dedicated R&D functions. Shaping the data strategy/roadmap for informatics systems, tools and processes in close partnership with the dedicated R&D functions and R&D Digital, Data and Informatics leadership team in order to support and drive the overall Digital, Data and Informatics strategy. Integrating the most critical R&D data supply chains by driving compounding effects from the build and use of these data assets for R&D that drive scalable contributions to BioNTech’s targeted business outcomes.

Your main responsibilities are:
  • Develops, sets-up and implements a global, cross-functional Data Value office for R&D to support BioNTech’s R&D business outcomes
  • Designs, implements and maintains the BioNTech R&D Data strategy by ensuring strategic business priorities are optimally supported by R&D’s data efforts
  • Specifies and implements a comprehensive and FAIR principles oriented suite of data practices including: data ingestion, data governance, data standards, data cataloging, data quality, Master Data Management (MDM), and data compliance as well as data ownership and regulations within R&D
  • Designs, implements and maintains Advanced Analytics & Data Lake Capabilities to ingest, organize and analyze internal and external data to enable data and analytics efforts across all R&D functions
  • Orchestrates R&D`s data efforts across the most critical data supply chains with the goal of creating compounding effects in the day to day use and re-use of data, data practices and analytics– from protocol design to clinical trail execution control, focusing on instant analytics

What you have to offer.

  • Higher degree in a scientific discipline (e.g. computer science, engineering, natural sciences, pharmacy and/or business administration) or related work experience in the chemical-pharmaceutical industry
  • Excellent knowledge of current data standards and procedures
  • Excellent data management background
  • Excellent pharma Data/IT background and knowledge of the pharmaceutical market
Work Experience:
  • At least 10 years of professional experience in a pharmaceutical company or service provider, thereof at least 5 years in data-related fields
  • Extensive experience in data management incl. data governance, treating data as an asset, managing according to  ‘FAIR’ principles, data cartographies and data cataloging, Master Data Management,
  • Extensive experience in data and system lifecycle management
  • Extensive experience with managing (software) vendors and external service providers
  • Profound knowledge in Pharma ‘Big Data’ strategies and platforms such as AWS, IBM Watson, Google, Azure, Palantir, excellent understanding of semantic, elastic search and NLP
  • Extensive experience in managing R&D business and/or digital/technology projects (incl. methods, standards and documentation)
  • Extensive experience in managing teams
  • Extensive experience in qualification and validation activities of IT solutions
  • Demonstrated experience in data infrastructure solution design and management
  • Fluent command of spoken and written English
