Senior Director* External Manufacturing

As Senior Director* External Manufacturing at BioNTech, you will be making a meaningful contribution to the ongoing development of our RNA production processes. In this role, you will be the decision authority regarding the contract manufacturing operations (CMO) portfolio, supporting us on our mission. Your main responsibilities are:
  • Defining and shaping supplier strategy and relationships completely independently through account plans, targets and projects in collaboration with suppliers and functional managers
  • Managing and improving performance of the accounts and team proactively: serving as primary point of escalation; setting targets for the accounts’ KPI dashboards; reviewing KPIs with suppliers and internal teams; setting goals for SRM members with functional heads
  • Ensuring implementation of CAPAs (corrective action and preventive action) and communicating changes and issues with suppliers
  • Leading SRMs, serving as single point of contact for cross-SRM relevant topics, developing standards and ensuring qualitative CMO management
  • Leading and reviewing continuous SRM improvement projects, and prioritizing and leading innovation ideas (e.g., drug delivery systems) in collaboration with suppliers
  • Assuring the SRM has “one voice” to 3rd parties; coordination across functions and leadership teams
  • Leading all functions assigned to supplier relationship team (e.g., quality, MS&T, AS&T, SCM, etc.)
  • Setting resource plans and budgets for the SRM: major projects required in the upcoming year; Project and account plans (capacity, saving, changes)

What you have to offer.

  • University degree in Supply Chain Management, International Business Management or Engineering
  • Several years of experience in the life science industry (ideally a biotech or pharmaceutical company), as well as in Supplier Relationships Management and Contract Manufacturing Operations
  • Good combination of strategic and operational skills; ability to make flexible, but thorough decisions in a highly dynamic environment
  • Demonstrated ability to negotiate and manage contracts, and establish and control budgets
  • Effective stakeholder management, both in cross-functional internal and external matrix team environment
  • Creativity and the ability to develop a flexible approach to changing conditions
  • Organizational skills to ensure optimal resource allocation
  • Profound knowledge in Good Manufacturing Practices, as well as in-depth business knowledge of biotech and pharmaceutical manufacturing and supply chain operations
  • Refined colloquial and correspondence skills in both German and English; presentation skills adaptable to all levels of internal and external stakeholders
