Senior Director* Cell and Gene Platform Management

Your main responsibilities are:
  • Contributes own experience and perspectives to an effort to design organization, resource and capability needs definition of new CellTx Division Team, led by VP Clinical Research
  • Takes over implementation of this organizational design (and newly defined decision-making processes and ways of working), tests and refines during implementation
  • Serves as Center of Excellence of creation of new Division Teams as need for these emerges in other TAs and platforms
  • Create a performance driven culture of process improvement and streamlining processes
  • Supports HR and individual functions in firming up and fielding external hiring plan, and onboarding and continuous capability building of its reports who are part of the CellTx Division Team. Provides input into job profiles for new hires to secure relevant CellTx expertise where required.
  • Defines CellTx Division Team agenda, annual book of work and priorities in close alignment with VP Clinical Research and other key functional leaders, as well as with CMO
  • Liaises with CellTx Program lead(s) and Program Manager(s) to understand key needs of individual program teams and how Division Team can contribute to meeting these, provide guidance and/or resolve roadblocks
  • Prepares CellTx Division Steering Committee Meetings (composed mainly of BNT Board members), helps facilitate these meetings, captures decisions and outcomes, ensures alignment with the strategic direction and timely follow-up of action items
  • Helps set up new Program Teams in CellTx as pipeline evolves and ensures interfaces with overarching CellTx Division Team work seamlessly
  • Supports program teams in handover of assets nearing launch, drawing in increasing numbers of Medical, Marketing & Commercial colleagues to prepare successful launch, ensuring integration into the Division strategy
  • Supports recruiting and/or appointment of new Division Team Leads, helps with their onboarding and acts as advisor
  • Exhibits consistent work practices with highest ethical standards in compliance with internal SOPs, local regulations and laws. Lives a culture of excellence, high performance and integrity.

What you have to offer.

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in the biotechnology/  pharmaceutical industry /CRO including a thorough understanding of early and late drug development process from IND through NDA
  • Deep experience in program lead roles in drug development (incl. strong understanding of, for example latest trends in protocol design, novel clinical trial designs, clinical operations, pharmacovigilance and submission experience)
  • Experience in translational and clinical cancer research, and/ or Drug development experience in oncology and/ or Immuno-oncology
  • Strategic view on the oncology therapy landscape, its key trends and innovation drivers and key dynamics in oncology drug development; sound understanding of novel modalities in oncology
  • Sound understanding of the emerging Cell Therapy field in oncology, its early successes and failures; strong perspective on differences between IO and CellTx drug development & critical capabilities to build
  • Proven track record in creating and leading cross-functional teams on portfolio level in defining and evolving their ways of working and enabling efficient and effective decision making
  • Demonstrated successes in global roles, driving integrated and cross-functional approaches across multiple regions (Europe, US, Asia); familiarity with ways of working and organizational models that are fit-for-purpose for small and mid sized biotechs
  • Strong strategic thinking on Development challenges and success factors
  • Ability to mobilize people in a cross-functional team to pursue common goals and real output orientation; ability to create a high performing team culture
  • Strong relationship building skills both externally (eg selectively with KOLs and investigators) and internally with key Development and Board level stakeholders
  • Track record of successfully collaborating with external partners and creating win-win-situations; ability to anticipate conflicts and solve these smoothly and effectively
  • Excellent communication skills, transparent yet positive style in addressing challenges and celebrating successes
  • Effectiveness as a matrix leader, and ability influence on multiple level of the organization
  • A can-do attitude and ‘glass-half-full’ mindset to forge a new team from scratch and be able to thrive in a start-up style environment
  • High proficiency in English (written and spoken); German a plus
