Security Engineering Lead*

At BioNTech, you will be responsible for leading the Security Engineering team. You and your team will be responsible for the application of engineering processes and principles to the corresponding designs and furthermore implement security controls and countermeasures within BioNTech’s range of different on-premises and cloud-based systems and networks. You are overseeing the development and implementation of BioNTech's cyber security strategy. You work closely with senior management to identify and assess risks, develop, and implement mitigation plans and are involved in the design, development, and implementation of security solutions. You also liaise with other departments to ensure that cyber security is integrated into all aspects of the business. The Cyber Security Engineering lead is responsible for the management and supervision of a team of cyber security professionals.
Your main responsibilities are:
  • Lead and manage the Security Engineering team to build the design and implementation of systems and networks with the business departments according to BioNTech’s security objectives.
  • Be the subject matter expert for Security Engineering at BioNTech, including application security, Automation/OT Security, Cloud environment, and effectively balancing security risk with business development initiatives.
  • A thorough understanding of BioNTech's IT security systems and to be able to anticipate possible security risks, identify areas of weakness.
  • Share in-depth knowledge in information security, cloud security, systems engineering, or the various sciences related to enterprise technology.
  • Provide support to understand and develop system requirements and technical solutions for cybersecurity engineering based on system architectures.
  • Possess knowledge on cyber threats and attack vectors as well as state-of-the-art IT infrastructures, including cloud infrastructure, and future development.
  • Conduct independent research on latest cyber threats, attack vectors and implementation strategies for continuous improvement.
  • Coordinate with security operations teams to achieve seamless integration of central security solutions.
  • Develop and employ Security Engineering standards & procedures for a distributed environment and to champion program improvements that meets the needs of business & security requirements.
  • Prepare and present decision papers on IT security architecture investment decisions (incl. motivation, business case, ROI, and project initiation).
  • Conduct proactive identification of security gaps, threats and vulnerabilities and conceptualization of response strategies.
  • Establish and moderate expert groups on cyber security.
  • Review and monitor performance metrics and manage continuous improvement.

What you have to offer.

  • Completed university degree in cyber security, information technology, computer science, or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of professional work experience and experience in leading cybersecurity teams.
  • Knowledge of information and data privacy laws and standards world wide (e.g.  Informationssicherheitsgesetz/German Information Security Law, EU-GDPR, Cybersecurity Law of the People’s Republic of China, ISO 27001, NIST).
  • Professional certifications in information security and risk management (e.g. CISM, CRISC, CISA, CISSP), process and service management (e.g. ITIL) as well as project management (e.g. PMI, PMP, Prince2, Scrum) or similar are a plus.
  • Knowledge of Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC) tools and related processes.
  • Knowledge of Vendor Management/Service Level Management.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication skills including German and English language (spoken and written).
