Director* Strategy and Capability Building in Development

The Director Strategy and Capability Building in Development is responsible for the design, planning, executing and tracking of capability-building programs for the clinical development function, and other areas, of BioNTech.
Based on the needs of the Development strategy, transformation roadmap and specific program and platform, this roles creates plans to build capabilities of the development function, supporting the build-up of a “Development Academy” with respective modules and training sessions to build capability of the future.
Those capabilities are centered around the skill requirements for successful drug development, which includes but are not limited to:
  • General approaches and procedures in drug development
  • Specific team requirements and skill needs (e.g. methodologies)
  • Data and digital driven approaches that will transform the way we work in drug development
  • Cultural aspects detailing “how we are working together
This role serves as a learning partner to the CMO and other senior leaders in development, supporting them with the aspiration that all employees have the necessary current, as well as future competencies, skills and knowledge to achieve objectives. This role works hand-in hand with the Senior Director for Strategy and Capability building, in supporting the set up and delivery of programs.
  • Works seamlessly together with HR function around corporate goals, processes and approaches, as well as external partners to achieve joint results.
    This role is a doer and loves to engage and exchange with people, and thereby influences across multiple layers of the organization.
    Core responsibilities:
  • Designs and implements impactful learning strategies for Development, working with executives and senior leaders of the function in defining capability requirements in support of the business strategy
  • Works closely together with a broad spectrum of functions and team, to share a capability building strategy for development, as well as specific tailored solutions in the area of capability building and learning.
  • Defines specific pathways (e.g. learners/ beginners/ advanced) for capability building around: state of the art drug development, clinical trials (incl. drug development, submission and launches), digitalization, and data science.
  • In detail, designs those global capability building journey including detailed learning objectives and designs, driving optimal vendor selection, as well as solution delivery. Utilizes various learning tools/ technologies/ channels/ formats to maximize learning impact.
  • Delivers measurable results to employees, as demonstrated by outcomes and KPIs. Constantly tracks outcomes and achieves, to further tailor and accelerate capability building measures where needed.
  • Collaborates with external consultants and provide them guidance on how to meet our needs, prioritize scenarios & solutions, and adapt to our business priorities

What you have to offer.

  • Multiple years (>5) of work experience in acting as a trainer / capability builder/ change agent, supporting complex organizational changes via the dimensions of training and capability building
  • Strong experience in the pharmaceutical industry, esp. in the field of drug development (incl. its functions, milestones, key activities) is a strongly preferred.
  • Ability to deliver and implement on plans in the area of capability building, and having proven ability to design strategic roadmaps to build capabilities of a team and/ or function. Being able to derive from a strategy, the impact on the skills of the workforce and how to best build needed capabilities of the future
  • Ability to work cross-functionally, and work with business leaders in drug development function to support them in formulating and defining target states for capabilities and skills
  • Solid experience around designing, preparing and conducting capability building and training measures – experience in rolling up the sleeves and getting deeply involved in preparing activities and implementing them.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to lead external providers and giving them concrete goals for shaping and implementing required training measures (both around content and channel/ media)
