Associate Director* Translational Scientist (Biomarker)

As part of the Translational Sciences team, you will contribute to the clinical development of new drug products by building and executing the translational and biomarker strategy. Your main responsibilities are: Your main responsibilities are:
  • As Translational scientist in assigned programs, responsible for developing and executing program-specific precision & translational strategies from exploratory early studies to ph 2/3 studies with registration intend, in alignment with clinical development objectives.
  • Responsible for bridging preclinical experimental data to translational strategies in the assigned programs to deeply integrate the mechanism of action to the clinical development plan (target engagement, pharmacodynamics endpoints, patient selection) and correlate with clinical outcomes.
  • Member of the program core team. Leads the biomarker sub-team and efforts for data generations, interpretation and presentation to the development teams and management to enable data-driven decision making.
  • Responsible for biomarker and translational contributions in the Target Product Profile, Integrated development plan and regulatory documents (IND, CTP, NDA).
  • Drives, in liaison with key stakeholders (as Diagnostics, Biolytics), and supported for operational tasks by the biomarker operations specialist, the execution of the translational and biomarker strategy in the assigned development program(s), with introduction and implementation of appropriate assays and technologies in line with high standards of experimentation.
  • Leads clinical development of companion diagnostics, if applicable, in the assigned programs.
  • Coordinates biomarker related program activities with internal and external stakeholders and drives integration of services, technologies, and capabilities to ensure reaching of program goals.
  • Managing biomarker data and processes in accordance with regulatory and BioNTech internal guidelines.
  • Partners with internal research and diagnostic teams and external academic groups and CROs to advance translational science capabilities at Biontech.

What you have to offer.

  • Ph.D., MD or PhD/MD in Immunology, biology, biochemistry or related discipline with scientific background in Oncology and/or infectious diseases
  • Previous experience in translational and biomarker research in the biotech or pharmaceutical industry, including understanding of the role of translational research/medicine and clinical biomarkers in drug development.
  • Experience in bridging preclinical experimental data to translational biomarker strategies to deeply integrate the mechanism of action in the clinical development plan (target engagement, pharmacodynamics endpoints, patient selection) and correlate with clinical outcomes.
  • Scientific accomplishments as evidenced by publications in peer reviewed journals and as speaker of conferences.
  • Experienced in working within interdisciplinary cross-functional teams with other key development functions (clinical lead, regulatory, biostatistics, operations and clinical pharmacology).
  • Experienced with relevant tools and procedures for biomarker analytics (e.g. Biomarker Development, Bioassays).  Experience in companion diagnostics development is a plus.
  • A genuine interest and understanding of the science supporting the development programs. Confident to discuss and present scientific and mechanistic aspects of drug development.
  • Comfortable in working in a matrix environment (global/cross-functional), including contributing to establishing clarity and structures and driving state of the art collaborations with external academic and industry partners.
