Associate Director* Manufacturing, Science & Technology (MS&T) Drug Substances

As Associate Director* Manufacturing, Science & Technology (MS&T) Drug Substances (DS) at BioNTech, you will be making a meaningful contribution to the ongoing development of our RNA production processes. In this role, you will be the technical knowledge owner of the DS process with decision authority for the partnership cluster under your lead, supporting us on our mission. Your main responsibilities are:
  • Leading the partnership cluster team as single point of contact for contact manufacturing operations (CMO) partners in the area of DS completely independently and by doing so, collaborating with operational and planning functions
  • Managing the End-to-end implementation, maintenance and improvement of the manufacturing process
  • Monitoring of KPIs to ensure process performance, stability and effectiveness of improvement measures
  • Functioning as the single point of contact for standard development (incl. standard operating procedures) and improvements of respective process specialty, implementation across DS CMOs
  • Harmonizing technical solutions, as well as improving robustness and sustainability
  • Facilitating the technical development of CapEx projects, new plants and CMOs transfer of technical know-how
  • Executing technical feasibility studies as part of process improvements and implementation of new technologies, and supporting Process Engineering risk evaluations and root cause investigations

What you have to offer.

  • University degree in (Life) Science, Engineering or a medical field
  • Several years of manufacturing experience in Drug Substance or related GMP manufacturing experience in a biotech, or pharmaceutical, or medical device company
  • Deep expertise in DS process development, strategies and applications
  • Good combination of strategic and operational skills; ability to make flexible, but thorough decisions in a highly dynamic environment
  • Excellent process management skills, Lean and Six Sigma qualifications preferred  
  • Creativity and the ability to develop a flexible approach to changing conditions
  • Organizational skills to ensure optimal resource allocation within the cluster
  • Profound knowledge of relevant US & EU regulations, EMA, FDA and other regulatory standards as well as Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP)
  • Refined colloquial and correspondence skills in both German and English; presentation skills adaptable to all levels of internal and external stakeholders; strong technical writing skills for GMP documentation (e.g. investigations, procedures, change controls)
