Associate Director* Formulation Discovery & Testing

We are looking for a talented hands-on synthetic chemist with a demonstrated record of innovation to focus on expanding and developing BioNTech non-viral nucleic acid delivery platform. You will design, synthesize, and evaluate new delivery cationic/ionizable lipids molecules for mRNA nanoformulation and work collaboratively with the entire delivery technologies team. Your main responsibilities are:
  • Design and synthesize novel lipids molecules as transfection reagents to support/expand BioNTech existing RNA delivery vehicle library incorporating a variety of chemical functionalities including bioactivity, biodegradability,and tolerability
  • Work as a team player with other members of the Formulation Delivery Technologies team to understand the lipids SAR and the performance of new lipids molecules and formulations, including stability, in vitro and in vivo bioactivity, and tolerability
  • You should be able to tackle complicated and complex tasks to develop and implement novel lipids to remote delivery vehicles to specific organs and/or cell types
  • Completely Independent planning, organization, performance, analysis, and documentation of experiments, as well as compilation and documentation of respective results
  • Coordination of your own work in the team as well as with internal and external partners, responsibility for internal and external cooperations

What you have to offer.

  • Completed studies with a doctorate in chemistry or a comparable natural science sector
  • Very good technical expertise in chemistry
  • Knowledge of the chemistry of nucleotides, peptides, lipids, polymers and related systems
  • High level of organization and reliability, independent, well-structured and precise way of working and willingness to take over responsibility, as well as the ability to work in a team and with enthusiasm 
  • Fluent English and/or German language skills (spoken and written)
