Associate Director, Corporate Communications*

Based in Cambridge, MA, BioNTech US serves as BioNTech’s North American headquarters and is an important part of our global effort to pioneer the development of next-generation immuno-oncology therapies. BioNTech US is a fully integrated subsidiary with a strong foundation in Europe and a focus on the development of novel neoantigen-targeted T cell therapies, complementing BioNTech’s highly innovative scientific approach and diversified pipeline of transformative cancer medicines. As a key research and clinical development hub, BioNTech US will enable BioNTech’s growing presence in the US.

The Associate Director will lead the activities for global corporate communications for the US affiliate. The ideal candidate will be responsible for translating the global corporate communications strategy into the local corporate communications strategy and activities. This function reports to the Senior Director of Global Corporate Communications based in our headquarters in Germany.

Supporting BioNTech’s Global Corporate Communication team in the US by:
 
  • The Associate Director will lead the activities for global corporate communications for with US affiliate by translating the global corporate communications strategy into the local corporate communications strategy and activities.
  • He/She will be in charge of expanding our existing and building up new relationships to relevant media outlets and journalists and identify potential risks and opportunities resulting from the public discourse. He/She will also act as the company’s contact person for these stakeholder groups.
  • Establish BioNTech as the leading global biotech-company, building and maintaining a media network. To this end, the Associate Director will engage with journalists and other stakeholders on a day-to-day basis and develop and implement suitable communications platforms and formats for the US market.
  • Support BioNTech’s management board in their positioning and networking with stakeholders from the media and scientific community. Develop strategies to demonstrate the value of our product candidates and portfolio. Prioritize BioNTech-relevant issues for the management board and deliver assessments of short-term as well as long-term trends and their respective impacts on BioNTech’s reputation.
  • She/he will interact and coordinate with crossfunctional global stakeholders such as Global Corporate Communications, Marketing, Medical Affairs, Business Analysis, Clinical Development, Regulatory and others. Serve as a sparring partner and will be expected to communicate in a transparent and data-driven manner, from written communication to live presentations.
  • Will align with journalists and collaborators in the US time zone to cover Global Corporate Communications to ensure availability across different time zones (US, Europe, Asia)
  • This is a recently created position, and as such, the role responsibilities are varied and broad

What you have to offer.

 
  • Minimum Requirements; BS/BA degree with 5 plus years of professional experience in public relations or corporate communications, ideally from a pharma, biotech or technology company
  • Strong writing, editing and proofreading skills with attention to detail; storytelling expertise and the skills to translate complex topics and concepts into engaging messages with the ability to shape and deliver key messages to various audiences, tailored to their individual needs
  • Ability to handle multiple projects passionately, take initiative independently and working in a team
  • He/she will show clear alignment and connection to achieving the organizations greater Global Communications goals
  • Has personal maturity and intellect to anticipate, evaluate, and respond to diverse challenges. Has the courage to make decisions when needed
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel and Word with strong attention to detail and ability to communicate. 
Preferred requirements;  German language skills would be highly beneficial to the role.
